5. Overlook the city during sunset
I love travel photography, and one of the most relevant moments for portraying places is the golden hour. Going uphill will take you around 75 minutes from Liberty square (4 kilometres walk with a 350 metres altitude increase), then you can enjoy an ice cream or beer – your choice – at the Funicular Complex, which is perhaps the fanciest place in Tbilisi, yet affordable. The park itself seems outdated from the soviet-era, but the views are outstanding.
If you are not into long walks, an alternative for a similar overview is the Narikala fortress, which you can reach it by walking around 15 minutes from Liberty Square (1,5 kilometres with only a 50 metres elevation). It’s the oldest monument in the city, built back in the 4th century A.D. In the same area, you can find sulphur baths and the botanical gardens of Tbilisi.
If you are not into hiking at all, you can go uphill by funicular from the station in Vilnius square or cable car from across the river Mtkvari.
